Argentine grains inspectors and oilseeds workers extend strike

Argentine grains inspectors and oilseeds workers said they will extend a strike over raising wages, with stalled negotiations interrupting Argentine grains exports, one of the biggest grain producers in the world, Reuters reported.

The strike, which began on December 9, was started by the oilseeds workers' federation and port grains inspectors from the URGARA union.

Worker strikes are common in Argentina, especially now as workers in the agriculture industry call for pandemic-linked bonuses and increased payouts to match the country's high inflation rate.

The crushing and export companies, represented by the CIARA-CEC export companies' chamber, said the workers' salary demands are excessive.
