Dong Thap province in Mekong Delta plans to produce 350,000 tonnes of pangasius fish in 2012, up 8,000 tonnes from this year.
The province has built a plan to raise pangasius fish cultivation areas to 2,176 hectares from 1,530 hectares in 2011, the newspaper reported Tuesday (Dec 13).
Due to shortage of materials, many pangasius fish processing plants in the province have been forced to work under their designed capacity.
The local authorities have built a number of policies to encourage the local farmers to raise pangasius growing areas in sustainable way by applying VietGAP procedures.
Vietnam-produced pangasius fish has been exported in numerous countries and territories, including the US, EU, Russia, Japan, and Canada.
