Cherkizovo wraps up harvesting campaign
Cherkizovo Group recently shared its harvesting results across its footprint.
This year, the company’s total harvest amounted to 643,000 tonnes of standard weight.
Cherkizovo's grain facilities are located across Russia, specifically in the Orel, Lipetsk, Tambov, Penza and Voronezh regions. They mainly grow wheat, corn soy and sunflower, which are then used to produce feed for the group's poultry and pig farms.
Cherkizovo's total harvesting area this year was 205,700 hectares, of which 35,000 hectares was used for winter wheat, 54,700 hectares for spring wheat, 65,000 hectares for soy, 27,000 hectares for sunflower and 21,000 hectares for corn. The remaining 3,000 hectares was also planted with rye and rapeseed.
In total, 343,000 tonnes of standard-weight wheat was collected during the harvest, which is 37 % less compared to 2020. Soy, by contrast, enjoyed a bumper year with a 63 % increase to 114,000 tonnes thanks to an expanded crop area. The corn harvest stood at 122,000 tonnes (up 11 % year-on-year), while the sunflower take was down 20 % to 57,000 tonnes.
Taking into account the other crops, the final total for this year's harvest came in at 643,000 tonnes of standard weight – a 24 % decrease from last year.
The 2021 production and yield results were affected by unfavorable climate, but higher prices for the main crops enabled Cherkizovo to achieve a 16 % rise in the grain segment's earnings before tax to ₽6.3 billion (US$85.7 million).
