Brazil pork exports to Hong Kong climb 42 percent
Brazil's pork exports to Hong Kong climbed by 41.87 percent year-on-year in the first 11 months of 2007.
According to the Brazilian Association of the Pork Meat Industry (Abipecs), Hong Kong consumed 95,403 tonnes of Brazilian pork, equivalent to US$150 million, between January and November 2007.
In November alone, the special administrative regions of China consumed 8,990 tonnes of Brazilian pork valued at US$15.2 million.
Next to Russia, Hong Kong is currently the second-biggest consumer of Brazilian pork. The region absorbs 17.55 percent of the volume and 13.97 percent of the total value of pork exported by Brazil.
Abipecs underscored the growth in exports to Hong Kong and said it was optimistic about the diversification of the Brazilian pork market.
Brazil is the world's fourth largest exporter of pork - after EU, US and Canada.
Between January and November 2007, Brazil exported 543,511 tonnes of pork, a rise of 12.22 percent on-year.
