Adisseo highlights updating Vietnam's feed regulation at GEFE event in Ho Chi Minh City

Adisseo recently participated in the Green Economy Forum & Exhibition (GEFE) 2022 at THISO SkyHall in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, on November 28-30.
The event was hosted by the European Chamber of Commerce (EuroCham), and aimed to advance EU-Vietnam sustainable development cooperation through comprehensive dialogue, investment coordination, knowledge sharing and technology transfer.
GEFE 2022's primary goal was to support Vietnam in meeting its COP26 commitments and to accomplish the development goals outlined in its National Green Growth Strategy for 2021-2030. Academics, innovators, students and policymakers from Europe, Vietnam and Southeast Asia attended panel discussions, an exhibition, and business-to-business and business-to-government discussions.
At the event, Antoine Bertho, country technical manager at Adisseo Vietnam, served as a panelist during a session dedicated to green farming systems and best C02 reductions practices.
Bertho highlighted the importance of changing Vietnam's animal feed regulation, which still obliges local feed miller to declare a minimum level of crude protein in their diet. Removing this limit would lead to a proper design of animal feed based on the real needs of animals in terms of providing amino acid.
According to Bertho, the environmental benefit of changing the legal framework include:
- Reducing imports of soybean and soybean meal that translates to reduction of transport and deforestation.
- Reducing the occurrences of diseases in animal caused by excess of undigested protein, with this action leading to lower antibiotic use and better feed efficiency.
- Reducing waste excretion that is rich in nitrogen; this would result in lower nitrous oxide or ammonia that are deleterious for air quality or greenhouse effect.
Bertho's recommendation was a practical message for the Vietnamese government and its Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) to quickly reduce CO2 equivalent emission from farms, Adisseo stated. Reducing greenhouse gas should neither compel farmers to support extra cost or negate animal performances. This message was also backed by other representatives of the feed milling industry, who were in the event.
