Bird flu detected among ducks in poultry farms at Kerala, India
According to the Animal Husbandry Department in Kerala, thousands of ducks have died of bird flu in the districts of Alappuzha, Kottayam and Pathanamthitta, reported the Times of India.
P Nallathambi, Tamil Nadu Farmers Association for Poultry president said biosecurity measures have been enforced in all farms on the district, with special clothing sprayed with an antiviral drug and salt to be worn by all poultry farm workers.
The antiviral drug and salt mix is also used on poultry transportation vehicles and visitors to the poultry farms.
Leaders of the National Egg Coordination Committee (NECC) have eased concerns regarding the export of eggs overseas, citing Oman, Afghanistan and Algeria as several countries that have maintained egg imports from India.
However, they added that the World Organization for Animal Health has classified India as affected by avian influenza.
