Brazil's November pork exports rise 15 percent

 

 

Brazil's November pork exports totaled US$119.24 million, up 15.3 percent from last year's US$103.392-million sales.

 

The Brazilian Pork Packaging and Export Association (Abipecs) reported that in value, November pork exports totaled 53,456 tonnes, up 1.77 percent from last month's 52,535 tonnes.

 

Brazil's total pork export from January-November was at US$1.075 billion, up 12.74 percent from US$953.28 million of last year, according to Abipecs.

 

In volume, January-November pork exports totaled 543,511 metric tonnes, up 12.2 percent on the 484,309 tonnes of the same period last year and higher than the 528,000 tonnes of all 2006.

 

The country's hog sector dealt with problems in 2006 due to foot-and-mouth cases in Paran¨¢ and Mato Grosso do Sul.

 

Prospects for 2008 look positive due to the opening of Santa Catarina to the Russian market and advances in new markets such as Chile, Mexico, China and Japan.
