Norway to fund meat industry in Uganda
The Norwegian government recently pledged support to Uganda to develop its meat industry.
Norway initially spent around US$550,000 for a study on the meat industry in Uganda.
Bjorg Leite, the Norwegian envoy, said that the support would be on grant basis and preferably focused on institutional cooperation components and programme coordination.
The ambassador explained that the Norwegian Agency for Development funded the study due to Uganda's high growth potential in its meat industry.
She said the study report draws a complex and comprehensive programme to meet the challenges in developing the meat sector into an export-oriented industry.
The programme would link the key areas under discussion by the government to alleviate poverty in the area.
Leite also pointed that the programme includes northern Uganda as an area for restocking and a possible future source of quality beef.
