Mexico's court decision supports stopping pork imports from Brazil

Mexico's court has decided to suspend pork imports from Brazil following protest from local producers, according to the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA).

Mexico is among the three largest pork importers in the world, importing 48% of its demand.

Brazil has been functioning as an alternative to other Mexican partners, serving, in particular, the needs of the Mexican processing industry, which also adds value locally.

Seven Brazilian plants were recently approved by Mexico. The first shipments from these facilities were made last February. Until October, 23,000 tonnes were exported, positioning Mexico as the 11th destination for Brazilian pork exports.
