Chile seeks seafood import certificates

Almost all of the seafood imported to Chile will have to obtain certificates of origin issued by exporting country's authorities, the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) said.

The National Agro-Forestry-Fisheries Quality Assurance Department (NAFIQAD) November 23 received information of Chile's authorities of food safety management releasing the new regulation on seafood import, in which all imported seafood have to obtain a certificate from exporting country's authorities.

The move is to ensure that imported seafood products are processed by facilities meeting national and international hygienic and safe standards.

The Vietnamese government requested the Ministry of Industry and Trade to issue certificate for exported goods.
