UK turkey sales expected to soar over holidays

As consumer traditions of carving their own turkey on Christmas has declined, the sales of de-boned poultry have increased in the UK.

According to UK's leading supermarket chains, sales of boneless meat products have risen by 38 percent in the past year. Additionally, culinary experts opined that the skill of carving could disappear altogether within a generation.

Sainsbury's expects to sell 40,000 turkey crowns this year, an increase of 40 percent against last Christmas.

Another supermarket giant, Tesco, expects a fifth of its festive sales of turkeys and geese, some 220,000 birds, to be boneless.

Tesco also extended its Easy-carve poultry range this Christmas and the chain claims that orders are already up 24 percent on-year.
