City council of Volyn, Ukraine, gives go-ahead for building of 10,000-pig fattening plant

The Rozhyshche City Council of Volyn, Ukraine, has endorsed a project for a pig fattening complex near the village of Sokol, designed to accommodate 10,000 pigs on a land parcel exceeding 15 hectares.

It is notable that the State Budget of Ukraine for 2026 allocates an additional ₴4.5 billion (US$106.6 million) for agricultural support compared to 2025, bringing the total to ₴14.1 billion (US$334.6 million). These funds are designated for demining activities, risk insurance, irrigation systems, grants and subsidies, affordable financing, and direct aid to farmers in frontline regions.

However, the Accounting Chamber of Ukraine has determined that, due to misalignment in support programmes, a significant portion of assistance has been directed toward large agribusinesses. For example, in the previous year, 49 beneficiaries across 31 corporate groups received 16% of the total distributed funds.

From 2024 to mid-2025, more than ₴5.2 billion (US$123.2 million) was allocated for farmer assistance, yet only approximately one-third of eligible farmers were able to successfully access these resources
