Workshop in Bangladesh highlights shrimp production with pathogen-free post larvae

Speakers at a workshop in Khulna, Bangladesh, emphasised the need for cultivating shrimp with disease-free and pathogen-free post larvae.

The speakers also called for bio-secure ghers, virus-free post larvae, and enhanced safety measures across the shrimp sector. They made the remarks at the workshop titled "Challenges and Opportunities in Sustainable Bagda Shrimp Farming" held on December 9 at Shrimp Tower in Khulna City.

The speakers also stressed ensuring the supply of high-quality post larvae from hatcheries as a priority. They noted that better technology, improved ghers, high-quality post-larvae, and proper feed are essential for increasing shrimp production.

The entire value chain, including hatcheries, feed traders, and exporters, suffers losses if farmers incur losses, underscoring the need for coordinated efforts, the speakers added.
