Laos and Thailand sign agreement to boost industrial cattle production

Laos and Thailand have formalised their collaboration on industrial cattle production through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signalling a significant effort to advance the cattle production industry in both nations.

The agreement, announced on Lao National Radio, focuses on modernising agricultural production by transforming cattle breeding into a systematic production chain that complies with international standards.

The partnership seeks to elevate cattle production to an industrial scale, enabling it to become a viable commodity for international export markets. To achieve this, high-quality cattle breeders and young cattle will be imported for fattening. Additionally, local farmers will be encouraged to cultivate fodder crops to support the production chain.

Plans under the MoU include the establishment of a modern, environmentally sustainable cattle breeding centre. This facility will focus on expanding cattle breeds to meet market demands and creating a network of breeding farms across Laos and Thailand.
