Vietnam to Develop National Seafood-Processing System

Vietnam's Ministry of Fisheries has established a project to develop planning for the national seafood-processing system.

The project aims to assess the current situation, forecast about the demand and taste for seafood products and suggest a sustainable seafood processing system and policy.

The Steering Board of the project will survey and collect statistics at coastal provinces, which have many seafood processing factories such as Ca Mau, Bac Lieu, An Giang, Dong Thap, Ben Tre, HCM City, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Binh Thuan, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa and Da Nang.

The Steering Board will evaluate the current situation of the seafood-processing network and present options on the numbers of seafood processing factories, the capacity and product structures.

Based on those options, the seafood sector will define seafood processing system planning for each region and some key coastal provinces through 2010.
