Argentine, Chilean organisations push for electronic health certification for livestock products

Argentina's National Agrifood Health and Quality Service (Senasa) and Chile's Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) are promoting the use of electronic health certification in the international trade of livestock products.

The aim is to achieve an internationally harmonised electronic version to replace paper sanitary certificates, which currently accompany the exports of animal products, as is already the case between the two countries with those of plant origin.

The digital version of the sanitary certificate will reduce the possibility of using fraudulent documentation, save resources, improve efficiency, and speed up the process of release of goods traded between Argentina and Chile.

Additionally, the president of Senasa and the national director of SAG signed a cooperation agreement to work on the harmonisation of these electronic health certificates. The areas involved in Senasa and SAG will advance in the exchange of information and the design of the electronic certificates, to then conduct the respective tests on the operation of the system. This will be followed later by a transitional period from analog certification to electronic certification.
