Agrivida seeks swine producers to trial new product
The largest North American family-owned pig producer, The Maschhoffs, will be one of the first to trial Agrivida's Grainzyme Phytase enzyme feed additive commercially.
Agrivida is now seeking more commercial swine producers to trial their new product Grainzyme in their commercial operations. The product follows the company's poultry corn-based enzyme, which only requires two to four pounds (0.907 to 1.81 kilograms) of ground Grainzyme corn per tonne of feed.
The benefits of Grainzyme for swine are the same as for poultry, which include better nutrition, feed conversion, and improved animal performance, plus a positive return on investment and more sustainable environmental footprint.
Dr. Bradley Wolter, president and CEO of The Maschhoffs and adjunct professor at the University of Illinois, said the product's super dosing is a big advantage and they believe the product will be able deliver the enzyme to the hind gut.
Rajiv Singh, interim CEO at Agrivida said the company's future steps will be to add pelleting trials and animal performance studies to compare Grainzyme Phytase to other conventional phytase products, including trials using different doses of phytase with various nutritional diet specifications, to discover the product's optimal performance. To do so, the product needs to be trialled among thousands of swine from grower to finisher stages.
A Journal of Animal Science study found that Grainzyme Phytase improved growth performance, better calcium and phosphorous digestibility and bone parameters. These are important for young swine, which will benefit most from feed enzyme supplementation.
