Canada's beef exports to Russia to double in 2010
Canada will export to Russia almost 12,000 tonnes of beef in 2010 compared with 5,700 tonnes in 2009, Ted Haney, president of the Canadian Beef Export Federation, said Tuesday (Dec 7).
Haney said that Canadians think the Russian market is critically important. Changes in supply influence the range of exported products.
In 2009, by-products made up 90% of beef deliveries and meat cuts only 10%, whereas the 2010 ratio is 50-50.
Canadian beef's main export destination is the US with a 306,000-tonne shipment forecast to the US by the year-end.
