Iraq Tenders to Buy Up to 250,000 Tons US Wheat

Iraq has tendered to buy 100,000-250,000 metric tons of US hard red winter wheat for January-February delivery, according to a European trader who had seen the tender documents.

The tender closes Dec. 15, he said.

The Iraqi Grain Board last sought US hard red winter wheat in a tender that closed Nov. 17, but no results have been announced.

The head of the Iraqi Grain Board, Khalil Assi, revealed that the board had bought 50,000 tons of hard milling wheat at $235/ton basis C&F with the option to increase the purchase to 150,000 tons.

He said earlier in November that Iraq intends to buy 350,000 tons of US hard red winter wheat for 2005.
