France reports Aujeszky's disease outbreaks to OIE

Two outbreaks of Aujeszy's disease in domestic pigs and wild boar have been confirmed in France.

French veterinary authorities reported the outbreaks to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The first case concerns a pair of adult breeding pigs that tested positive in the context of prophylaxis. The two animals and the three piglets were kept outdoors in Humbecourt (Haute-Marne).

Transmission by wild boar is strongly suspected.

The second outbreak was detected on a wild boar farm with three sows located in Gennetines (Allier). Animals at the farm were tested positive in the context of prophylaxis (six animals out of 15 tested). This is an outdoor farm and transmission by free-ranging wild boar is strongly suspected.

The epidemiological investigation is ongoing.
