Canadian government report gives fish farms a clean bill of health

A comprehensive survey done by the government in Canada's British Columbia said farmed salmon in the province are not threatening wild stocks.

The 3-year survey, from 2002 and 2005, found that less than two per cent of farmed fish deaths are caused by infectious disease and these diseases were also present in wild stock, not new diseases spawned because of fish farming.

In addition, the survey says that sea lice in farms are not a significant threat to wild stocks.
