Indemnification pay distributed to ASF-affected hog raisers in Philippines
At least 631 hog raisers in the Philippines - whose pigs were culled in Cauayan City due to African swine fever (ASF) - recently received indemnification pay from the country's Department of Agriculture (DA).
Dr. Maneul Galang, veterinarian and ASF focal person from DA-2, said DA has allotted ₱20,445,000 (US$405,915) for the ASF-affected farmers in Cauayan City where 4,091 hogs were culled.
"Today marks the start of massive distribution of indemnification for the farmers affected by ASF in the region," Dr. Galang said.
He said the DA Central Office through the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) released ₱161 million (US$3.2 million) from the Philippine President's Contingent Fund to cover the remaining indemnification pay of unpaid farmers on or before December 15, 2021.
