ASF discovered in wild boar in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany

African swine fever (ASF) has been detected for the first time in the wild boar population in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany.

The wild boar was hunted in Marnitz in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district near a freeway in an area previously free of ASF.

An initial analysis by the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern State Office for Agriculture, Food Safety and Fisheries detected a high ASF viral load last month, which was confirmed by the Friedrich Loeffler Institute.

To date, only one case of ASF had been confirmed in domestic pigs in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

The remaining ASF cases detected in Germany have occurred in the states of Brandenburg (wild boar and domestic pigs) and Saxony (wild boar).
