Standstill order issued for all poultry farms in Gyeonggi, South Korea following reported bird flu case

South Korea has issued a standstill order for all poultry farms in Gyeonggi Province, 308 km south from Seoul, after one suspected case of highly pathogenic bird flu was reported, Korea Herald reported.

South Korea's Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs said under the standstill order, all poultry farms in the affected area will be prohibited from moving birds or related vehicles for the next 48 hours.

All the ducks at the infected poultry farm are set to be culled.

South Korea confirmed its third case of bird flu at a duck farm in Yeongam on December 5, and is currently investigating a possible bird flu case at an egg farm in Yeoju of Gyeonggi Province.

The first farm-related bird flu case in South Korea this year was reported in Jeongeup, 290 km south of Seoul on November 28. The second bird flu case was reported in Sangju, 270 km southeast of Seoul.

There are 15 bird flu cases confirmed in the wild in South Korea.
