16th bird flu outbreak in Japan confirmed at Nara Prefecture


 

Nara prefecture announced a bird flu outbreak suspected to be highly pathogenic at a chicken farm in Gojo city, the 16th bird flu case in Japan this year, Jiji Press reported.

 

83,000 chickens are set to be culled at the farm, with movement restrictions imposed in a 10 km vicinity from the affected farm. About 47,000 additional chickens are raised in the surrounding vicinity.

 

Of the other 15 bird flu cases in Japan, 10 were discovered in Kagawa prefecture, three in Miyazaki prefecture, and one each in Hyogo prefecture and Fukuoka prefecture.
