Australian meat exporters helping Vietnam develop new animal health laws

Vietnam is developing new animal health laws with the help of Australia's Livestock Export Program, which will apply to all cattle in Vietnam, 2GB Australia reported.

Michael Patching, Australia's Livestock Export Program's manager livestock services for Asia Pacific, said local Vietnamese cattle aren't afforded the same level of oversight and control and regulation that Australian cattle have.

Patching said the new regulations will encompass animal husbandry and handling, disease prevention, slaughter, food safety, and traceability.

He said there will be risks to these new regulations, as Australia can only regulate what happens to Australian livestock overseas.
