Australia's November beef exports to Japan up 2 percent

Meat and Livestock Australia said the country's beef exports to Japan reached 36,778 tonnes in November, up 2 percent year-on-year, and up 18 percent from October.

According to MLA, Japanese buyers had withheld beef orders in recent months until November, due to uncertainty over when US beef would enter the country's market and high inventory levels held earlier this year.

However, the buyers found themselves short of beef supplies just before the peak demand period at year-end. The upcoming Christmas and New Year holiday season had provided the boost for Australian beef exports, MLA added.

Total beef exports in November reached 80,678 tonnes, up 13 percent from October but down 3.3 percent from the same period the previous year.
