Ukraine may become leading corn supplier to the EU
In 2012-13 the EU countries can significantly increase the import volumes of corn with Ukraine taking the first place among the main suppliers of corn to the EU.
According to the latest forecast of analysts of the USDA, the specified region will import 6.5 million tonnes of the grain, as opposed to 6.3 million tonnes purchased on foreign markets last year.
Since the beginning of the new season Ukraine already supplied 0.6 million tonnes of corn to the specified region, up 13 times compared with the results for the same period last year.
The prolonged drought, observed in the region for a long time, affected the forecasts to increase corn imports to the EU.
