Hong Kong suspends Japanese poultry imports

The processing of applications for importing poultry products from Japan has been suspended as a result of an avian influenza outbreak in Yasugi in Shimane prefecture, said Hong Kong's Centre for Food Safety.

In a news bulletin released Friday (Dec 3) by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government, the Centre said it is seeking more information on the case from Japanese authorities and is monitoring the situation.

Hong Kong imported 3,800 tonnes of frozen poultry from Japan during the first nine months of this year.
