African swine fever outbreak reported in Poland, close to Germany's border
Poland's Agriculture Minister Jan Krzysztof Ardanowski said 21 wild boars have died from African swine fever (ASF), reported The Associated Press.
The ASF-infected wild boar was discovered near the town of Zielona Gora, which has been sealed off with a 56 km fence.
Local hunters have been dispatched to kill the remaining wild boar in the area.
The Agriculture Minister said the fencing is to safeguard swine farms in the neighbouring province around Poznan city, adding that the disease has not been discovered among Poland's swine farms.
About 270,000 wild boars were hunted in east Poland earlier this year to prevent ASF from spreading to Ukraine.
