Irish milk intake up 7.2% in October
Irish domestic milk intake by creameries and pasteurisers in October was estimated at 536.1 million litres, up 7.2% year-on-year, data from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) showed.
Milk intake by creameries and pasteurisers refers to whole milk bought by creameries and pasteurisers from domestic producers through collection depots and separating stations. It includes whole milk obtained from herds owned by the creameries and pasteurisers. The fat content of the whole milk is also collected.
The CSO said total milk sold for human consumption decreased 0.2 % to 44.7 million litres.
Butter production was up 11.6 % to 17,000 tonnes.
