Vietnam's Jan-Oct seafood exports to China up 37% on-year

In the first 10 months of 2013, China was ranked fourth among the 156 markets for Vietnamese seafood, after the US, EU and Japan, said the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

Vietnam exported some US$462 million worth of seafood products to China during the period, an increase of 37% on-year, of which shrimp exports were up nearly 50% to US$310 million, accounting for 67% of Vietnam's seafood exports to China, VASEP said.

Shrimp exports to China in October almost doubled against the same period last year. The market occasionally surpassed the European market on shrimp export value, according to the association.

The ratio of shrimp exports to China are 3.6% of processed shrimp to 96.3% of frozen raw shrimp, while the ratio of Vietnamese shrimp exports to other markets are 31% to 69%, said VASEP.

In January-October of 2013, Vietnam exported US$5.5 billion of seafood products, an increase of 7.3% on-year, said the association.
