Chinese company to construct US$450-million aquaculture facility in Uganda

The 5,000-acre specialized aquaculture industrial park project by Hainan Qinfu Foods Company Limited will farm and process tilapia, reported PML Daily Uganda.

The company specialises in tilapia aquaculture in China, focusing on fish feed production, fish fry commercial production, processing and marketing.

Qinfu Zhou, Hainan Qinfu Foods chairman informed Uganda Investment Authority officials that the company will invest US$450m to build the aquaculture facility in Uganda, with support from the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and Uganda Embassy in China.

The high tech aquaculture park will incorporate tilapia breeding and farming, processing plants for tilapia harvest, fish feed and collagen, a factory for packaging material and a fish farming out-growers scheme for Ugandans.
