South Korea's CJ Group Building A 100,000 MT Lysine Production Plant in China's Shandong Province

South Korea's CJ Group is investing US$100 million to build a lysine production plant in Liaocheng Economy Developing Zone of Shandong province in China. The official signing ceremony for the project was held in Jinan city of Shandong province on December 3.

 

The Deputy Secretary of the municipal council and mayor of Liaocheng city, Mr Zhang Qiubo, and the representative of CJ Group, Mr Li Zaiyuan, signed the investment agreement. The deputy mayor of Liaocheng city, Zhang Zhigang, chaired the signing ceremony.

 

The signing ceremony was attended by many local Chinese officials, including the deputy provincial chief of Shandong province, Mr Sun Shoupu; head of Science & Technology Bureau of Shandong province, Mr Jiang Daixiao; head of the government office in Shandong province, Mr Ma Yuenan; deputy head of the municipal government, Mr Yan Zuoxi; deputy head of Provincial Economy & Trade Bureau, Mr Liang Bo, as well as the director of CJ Hong Kong Pte Ltd for China area, Mr He Fengzhu.

 

The representative of CJ Group, Mr Li Zaiyuan, spoke at the ceremony. He said that the Group selected Liaocheng city as the location for this investment after a two-year thorough survey in the search for a suitable location for the lysine production plant. He added that Liaocheng city has bountiful natural resources and a pool of competitive human resources. Therefore, the Group decided to establish its bio-technology project in the city, and has full confidence in developing the facility into the world's biggest lysine production plant.


The US$100 million plant will have an annual production capacity of 100,000 tons, and is expected to commence production in 2005. CJ Group is the sole investor in this project, and the investment is the biggest foreign investment project in Liaocheng Economy Developing Zone of Shandong province.

 

South Korea's CJ Group was established in 1953, and is today a well-known multinational company involve in a wide range of businesses, including food processing, bio-technology, mass media, construction, information technology, etc. Currently, CJ Group is listed as the thirteenth largest company in South Korea.
