Iran's production of fish products up 32% year-on-year in March-October period

Iran's production of fish products in the first seven months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20 to October 21) exceeded 512,000 tonnes, a 32% increase compared to the same period last year.
According to Hossein Hosseini, the head of the Iran Fishery Organisation (IFO), fishery exports also increased by 44% in weight and 28% in value during the period. This was reported by Mehr News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.
Hosseini noted that according to the programmes developed by IFO, the country's fish and seafood production is expected to reach 1,459,700 tones by the end of the current calendar year.
The Iranian industry currently employs 144,000 fishermen and 117,000 people in aquaculture, of which 18,000 are engaged in direct farming of fish, shrimp, and algae.
