Philippines lifts import ban on Swedish poultry products

The Philippines has lifted its import ban on poultry products from Sweden following the containment of the avian influenza outbreak in the country, the Philippines' Department of Agriculture (DA) announced.

The decision allows the resumption of imports for Swedish poultry meat, eggs, chicks, and other bird products. These imports must comply with the Philippines' stringent food safety standards to enter the local market.

The ban, initially imposed in March due to concerns over avian flu, has been lifted after Sweden reported no new cases of the disease. This move comes as part of the DA's regular review of international disease reports and import policies.

In a related development, the Philippines also recently ended its ban on Danish poultry imports. This decision followed the successful resolution of an avian flu outbreak in Denmark.

Despite these adjustments, the DA continues to enforce import restrictions on poultry from California, the Czech Republic, and India. These bans remain in place due to ongoing outbreaks of avian influenza and foot-and-mouth disease in these regions.

The DA reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and health of the Philippines' livestock and poultry industries while balancing the need to maintain stable food supplies.
