Indonesian aquaculture tech startup secures US$13.1 million in funding
Jala, an Indonesia-based startup specialising in aquaculture tech services, has successfully raised US$13.1 million in a series A funding round, which will be used to improve Jala's platform focusing on delivering more comprehensive predictions for cultivation performance, water quality, and shrimp disease, Tech In Asia reported.
The funds will also be used to boost its capabilities for automated data input concerning shrimp weight and feed data.
The series A funding round was led by Intudo Ventures, which also saw participation from Sinar Mas Digital Ventures, along with contributions from existing investors Mirova and Meloy Fund.
Established in 2017 by Aryo Wiryawan and Liris Maduningtyas, Jala's app empowers Indonesia aquaculture farmers to record, monitor, and analyse their shrimp farm activities in real time. The company highlights its impact, revealing that it has effectively monitored shrimp activities across more than 35,000 water bodies, catering to nearly 20,000 users.
Beyond its core services, Jala extends a credit scoring facility named Jala Smartfarm, providing farmers with access to financing options. Simultaneously, its Jala Harvest offering assists farmers in bringing their products to market.
