UK egg sales soar in October
UK consumers have taken a shine to eggs in October, with sales rising by about 5% or 17 million eggs, according to industry data.
The Kantar Worldpanel Report covers the period to 31 October and builds on figures from September which saw sales grow by 3%, which equated to total growth in consumer sales of 75 million eggs in the last 24 months.
Andrew Parker, chairman of the British Egg Industry Council (BEIC), said he believes that British Egg Week has played a positive role in reinforcing egg sales.
"British Egg Week gave the industry the perfect opportunity to consolidate recent growth rates and we are now seeing a very strong end to the year," he said.
"All the positive nutrition stories have added to increasing consumer recognition of the great value and convenience eggs offer. It is a little wonder that egg sales are on the increase," he said.
