New Zealand's regulations concerning pig farrowing crates, mating stalls unlawful, court declares
Following a judicial review, the High Court of New Zealand has determined that regulations and standards relating to pig farrowing crates and mating stalls are not in line with the Animal Welfare Amendment Acts, and are therefore unlawful and invalid.
As a result of the ruling, the court has directed New Zealand's Minister of Agriculture to consider recommending new regulations phasing out the use of farrowing crates and mating stalls, as well as making such changes as are necessary to minimum standards.
