Egypt Imported 3.385 Million MT Wheat July-Oct in 2004-05

 

Egypt's total wheat purchases for the first four months (July-October) of marketing year 2004/2005 are estimated at 3,384,900 metric tons, while the US market share during this period was slightly over 31%, or 1,059,500 MT, according to the US Department of Agriculture.

 

Egypt's total wheat imports by country of origin are as follows:

 

During the first half of November 2004, GASC purchased 120,000 MT of American SWW wheat at a reported price of $142.98 and 60,000 MT of wheat from Argentina at a reported price of $116.30 per MT (FOB) for delivery during the second half of December 2004.

 

According to wheat traders, more private-sector importers shifted toward Russian wheat as a result of its competitive price. It is reported that during the months of September and October the private sector imported 222,000 MT and 249,000 MT of Russian wheat at reported prices of $150 and $155 per MT C&F, respectively.
