Ukraine soy and rapeseed production to increase in 2010-11
Ukraine's rapeseed and soy production volumes will increase in 2010-11, according to forecasts by the Ukrainian association Ukroliyaprom.
Stepan Kapshuk, the General Director of Ukroliyaprom, said that although sunflower is the most profitable crop, the country has increased its rapeseed and soy production volumes over the last three years.
According to the forecast, rapeseed general production in Ukraine in 2010-11 will total 1.429 million tonnes whereas the exports will total 1.4 million tonnes. In 2010-11, soy production volumes will be more than 1.6 million tonnes whereas soy export volumes will total 400,000 tonnes. At the same time, Kapshuk stated that it is possible for these two crops production volumes to reach the level of sunflower seed production volumes in the near future.
Ukraine's general production volumes of the major oilseeds will exceed the level of 10 million tonnes in 2010-11. Meanwhile, the domestic processing capacities total 9.7 million tonnes as of September 1 and 10 million tonnes are expected to be processed at the beginning of 2011. The country continues to increase its capacities, said Kapshuk.
