South Africa corn yield rise by 8,000 tonnes
 

 

South Africa's corn yields for the 2007/08 season rose by 8,000 tonnes on the week to 5.986 million tonnes last week, the South African Grain Information Service said on Wednesday (November 28, 2007).

 

The yields are just under one million tonnes short of the projected 6.902 million tonnes total production for the season.

 

South African farmers harvest corn each year from about April to early August, with the key harvest months being June and July.

 

Wheat yields for the 2007/08 season rose by 131,000 tonnes to 521,000 tonnes last week, Sagis said in its weekly report.

 

South Africa is forecast to produce 1.70 million tonnes of wheat this season.
