France's slaughter pigs increase 1.1 percent on-year
Finished pigs in France grew 1.1 percent on-year in the January to October period, with nearly 2.2 million pigs slaughtered, according to the agricultural statistics agency, Agreste.
Figures by Agreste also indicate a 5.2-percent on-year drop in breeding herd cull numbers, which reached 373,890 head at the end of October.
Late last year, the French pig industry had a massive cull, therefore on-year falls of 12 percent for September and October cull numbers were no surprise.
Third quarter pork exports also lifted 8 percent, which topped 501,000 tonnes this year.
