Bunge and ForFarmers partner to support decarbonisation efforts in soy supply chain

Bunge and ForFarmers on November 24 announced a strategic agreement aimed at improving sustainability within the soybean meal supply chain in Europe.

The companies signed an agreement to establish a low-carbon soybean meal flow starting with the Netherlands.

The supply agreement requires Bunge to supply close to 100,000 tonnes of soybean meal to ForFarmers from various origins. Brazilian soybeans will be sourced from farms participating in regenerative agriculture programmes grown with sustainable farming practices and meeting Bunge's standards for deforestation-free sourcing. 

ForFarmers will receive supply chain traceability and verified carbon footprint calculations through blockchain technology, providing transparency on the flow from its origin to its destination.

Ilse Niehof-Duivelshof, director of corporate affairs and sustainability with ForFarmers, said: "We are pleased to partner with Bunge on this initiative. Bunge is already implementing sustainable agriculture practices throughout its supply chains, aiming to safeguard the environment, preserve biodiversity, and respect human rights.

The ForFarmers collaboration is the latest example of how Bunge is working to build value chains that are integrated from farm to consumer, traceable and verifiable, and have a positive impact on the planet.
