Portugal's pig exports rose by 29.8% in first nine months this year

Portugal's pig exports — including piglets for fattening and pigs for slaughter —increased by 29.8% in the first nine months of 2023 compared to the same period last year, going from 329,998 head in 2022 to 428,192 head in 2023 (+98,194 head).
The total weight of these animals increased by 20.6% compared to the previous period, from 23,326 tonnes in 2022 to 28,134 tonnes in 2023.
Portugal's exports of frozen and chilled pork decreased by 4.58% in the first nine months compared to 2022, with total sales abroad standing at 23,213 tonnes in 2023 and 24,4844 tonnes in 2022.
Sales of fresh and chilled pork increased by 13.8%, but frozen pork fell by 15.4%. Offal sales increased by 16.1% from 7,491 tonnes in 2022 to 8,694 tonnes in 2023.
Revenue from exports increased by 32.9%, from €112.788 billion in 2022 to €149.854 billion (US$164 billion) in 2023.
