Ukraine ups 2009 grain harvest estimate to 48 million tonnes

Ukraine is likely to harvest this year 48 million metric tonnes of grain in clean weight, and not 42.9 million tonnes as was forecast earlier, the agriculture ministry announced Thursday (November 26).

The ministry said the increase in the harvest forecast was mostly due to a larger-than-expected corn harvest.

In 2008 Ukraine harvested 53.3 million tonnes of grain in clean weight.
