Brazil's Korin company to export organic chicken
Company Korin Agropecuaria, the first company from southeast Brazil to produce organic chicken, will soon focus on exporting its poultry products.
Due to global demand, Korin launched the first frozen organic chicken in the country. Korin's chickens are fed organically without antibiotics, hormones and growth promoters.
A part of the produce is delivered to the domestic market. However, the company will now focus on exports.
Edson Shiguemoto, commercial manager of Korin, said France, Germany, Japan and the United States are great consumers of organic products. The company has already exported green chicken to Japan. Shiguemoto said organic chicken would even be more successful in Japan and the other offshore markets.
The organic chicken made by Korin is preferred by people concerned with good feeding habits, aligned to environmental and social sustainability, characteristic of the certified organic production system.
As the cost of the raw material used, organic maize and soy, is around three times more expensive than conventional feed. Each kilogram of organic chicken costs between US$ 5.65 and US$ 6.25.
Korin projected the initial production saround 20 tonnes of meat a day.
On the domestic market, one of the partners in the trading of the organic chicken will be supermarket chain Pao de Acucar.
