UK Negotiate With China for Exports of Pig Products

The UK's Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs officials has visited China to begin the process of negotiating a health certificate for exports of pigmeat, semen and live pigs from Great Britain.

Overall, the Chinese authorities are receptive to negotiations for a health certificate. However, the State General Administration for Quality Supervision and Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) is less positive.

DEFRA has requested that the Meat and Livestock Commission stimulates interest in China and to keep AQSIQ informed.

To this end, British Pig Export will try to engage Wan Long (speaker at the World Pork Congress) to assist, given his position in the trading and political establishment.
