Arla's largest fresh milk dairy in Aylesbury commences production
Following several weeks of trials, the world's biggest fresh milk dairy facility worth £150 million (US$242 million), built by Arla Foods on the outskirts of Aylesbury, has commenced production.
The dairy has the capacity to process up to one billion litres of fresh milk, sourced from the co-operative's dairy farmers, and will be zero carbon.
"Our Aylesbury dairy is the largest single investment for the co-operative and, as market leader, Arla is setting the future standard for the dairy industry. We are now beginning to ramp up our operations," said Arla Foods CEO Peter Lauritzen.
In November 2009, Arla announced its intention to build the 70-acre dairy, to give it a strategic base from which to transport milk to its customers in and around the London area.
