Russia November pigs up 6 percent on year while cows down 1.4 percent on year
The number of pigs in Russia on November 1 was 17.5 million, an increase of 6 percent compared with November 1 2006, the federal statistics service said in a statement Friday (November 23, 2007).
Total cattle on November 1 was 22.1 million, 0.4 percent less than a year ago. The total included 9.4 million cows, a fall of 1.4 percent on the year.
The number of sheep and goats on November 1 was 21.2 million, 5.4 percent more than on November 1, 2006.
Total meat production in the country in January-October increased by about 9 percent on the year to 6.3 million tonnes in live weight.
